The Managing Director of Ghana Water Limited, Adam Mutawakilu, has refuted claims of a prolonged lack of water supply in areas within the Effutu Constituency.

In a letter dated 20 August 2025, the MP for Effutu, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, stated that water disruptions, persisting for over two weeks, have caused significant hardship for the constituency’s population of more than 140,000.
Speaking to the media during a visit to the Winneba Water Treatment Plant on Monday, September 1, the Managing Director of Ghana Water Limited clarified that the situation on the ground disproves claims of water shortages, confirming that water supply in the Effutu area has been consistent.
“The data I have in the office does not support the assertion he [Afenyo-Markin] has made, and therefore, there was a need to pay a visit to verify the claim. It is evident that the claim cannot be supported by facts on the ground.
“The Winneba Headworks produces 9,700 cubic meters of water daily. And there hadn’t been any interruptions for about six hours, a full day, two days, three days, there hadn’t been interruptions. If you look at the data, it doesn’t support the claim he made. As a former Board Chair of GWL, if there were evidence, he should have consulted the management of GWL. I want to state emphatically that the claim that 140,000 customers have been affected as a result of the shutdown cannot be supported by facts on the ground,” he stated.
The Managing Director of Ghana Water Limited further stated that plans are far advanced to restore water supply to customers whose lines were affected by the ongoing Kasoa-Winneba highway expansion project.
