President John Dramani Mahama is today launching Ghana’s ambitious Free Primary Healthcare Programme, a major policy intervention aimed at expanding access to essential health services and reducing the financial burden on citizens.
The initiative, which is being rolled out in phases, is expected to transform healthcare delivery by prioritising preventive care and early diagnosis, particularly in underserved and rural communities.
At the official launch, government officials are expected to outline the programme’s roadmap, which begins with implementation in about 150 districts across the country. The first phase targets areas with limited access to healthcare facilities, ensuring that vulnerable populations benefit immediately.\
As part of the rollout, the government has deployed over 350 container-based health facilities to strategic locations such as markets, lorry parks and densely populated communities. These facilities are expected to provide convenient access to basic healthcare services for Ghanaians who may otherwise struggle to visit hospitals.
