Solomon Kwame Asumadu, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Akwatia, has issued a stark warning to Inspector General of Police COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno concerning the upcoming September 2nd by-election.

Asumadu declared that ensuring peace during the vote is a direct test of the police chief’s credibility.
Speaking to party supporters after a unity walk on Sunday, August 17, 2025, Asumadu stressed the police must not fail in their duty to safeguard the constituency. “I believe that the IGP will ensure a peaceful election on 2nd September. Ensuring a peaceful election will help boost his credibility,” he stated. “But if he does not ensure that we have a peaceful election, then he will become the worst Police IGP the country has had.”
NPP Regional Chairman Jeff Konadu, also addressing the crowd, urged constituents to vote in large numbers to retain the seat for the party. He sought to calm fears, assuring supporters that no one would be allowed to cause violence on election day.
Asumadu positioned himself as the successor to the late MP Ernest Kumi, pledging to continue his development focus for Akwatia. “I am the Joshua of our time. I knew Ernest Kumi prioritized the development of the constituency, and that is exactly what I intend to continue,” he said, referencing the biblical figure. He promised proactive development, stating, “I will not wait for the Common Fund but will ensure that prosperity is the forte of the people of Akwatia.”
