Mahama speaks at the state burial of fallen heroes.

President John Dramani Mahama has paid glowing tribute to the heroes who lost their lives in a recent helicopter crash, describing them as “true patriots who served with honour until their final breath.”

Grief makes us feel helpless sometimes. We need to honour the individual and have compassion for each other and the children of the deceased, Mahama stated

Mahama called for greater investment in the safety and welfare of Ghana’s security services, stressing that such tragedies should strengthen the nation’s resolve to protect those who protect it.

In his address, the president praised the professionalism and dedication of the officers, noting that their sacrifices embody the highest ideals of service to the nation. Therefore, promotion was given to these fallen heroes in the military.

Squadron leader Peter Anala was promoted to the rank of wing commander.

Flying Officer Mane Twum Ampadu was promoted to the rank of flight lieutenant.

Sergeant Ernest Mensah was promoted to the rank of flight sergeant.

President John Dramani Mahama has announced the establishment of a Children’s Support Fund to cater to the children of the eight victims of the August 6 helicopter crash.

He revealed that Stanbic Bank has provided an initial seed capital of GHC500,000 to kickstart the initiative.

Paying tribute to the deceased, President Mahama described the crash as a national tragedy that has “cast its shadow over the heart of Ghana.”

Speaking at the funeral ceremony for six of the victims on Friday, August 15, he said the fund would cover the education of the victims’ children from primary school through to the university level.
