Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku has reaffirmed the Association’s zero-tolerance stance on betting in domestic football, declaring that no betting company is licensed to place odds on the Ghana Premier League or any other local competition.

Speaking at the launch of the GFA’s partnership with Adesa Production Limited, Okraku dismissed suggestions that gambling firms are currently involved in the sponsorship or branding of the league.
The GFA President disclosed that legal proceedings are underway, both in Ghana and abroad, against companies that have unlawfully placed bets on domestic competitions.
Just like announced during our Congress 12 months ago, we are pursuing legal action locally and internationally against companies that unlawfully take bets on our leagues.
Our legal department is working closely with reputable legal firms to confront these activities head-on. Let us be very clear: no betting company is allowed to take bets on our domestic competitions,” he stated
The GFA President also used the occasion to outline a major reform in prize distribution for the 2025/26 season. Under the new structure, all 18 Premier League clubs will be rewarded based on their final league positions, not just the champions. Each club will also receive a pre-season allocation of GHS 1 million to support preparations, infrastructure improvements, and operational expenses.
Okraku said the reforms are designed to increase competitiveness, improve club finances, and attract a broader range of corporate partners to Ghanaian football.
