Growing Discontent Within NPP Over Flagbearer Election Timeline.

A growing wave of dissatisfaction is sweeping through the rank and file of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as several members express frustration over the leadership’s handling of the timeline for electing the party’s 2028 presidential flagbearer.

The NPP, which lost the 2024 elections to the NDC, is under intense pressure to rebuild its image, reconnect with its base, and present a credible, dynamic flagbearer. Many in the party believe that a transparent and timely process is the first critical step toward that goal.

Critics within the party accuse the current leadership of deliberately delaying the process to favor certain candidates.

“The leadership is very aware of the rising tension on the ground,” one national executive member said. “We believe an early contest will help clear the air, give the party time to rally around one candidate, and begin serious preparations toward 2028.”

Over the past few weeks, there has been mounting pressure from regional executives, youth wings, and even some former MPs, all demanding clarity on when the flagbearer race will begin. Many fear that delays could deepen factionalism and breed mistrust among potential aspirants and their supporters.

While no official date has been set, insiders suggest the election could be held as early as the first quarter of 2026.
