The Minister of Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, has assured the public of the government’s unwavering support in strengthening school inspection activities across all Senior High Schools (SHSs), particularly during weekends.
Speaking at a stakeholder engagement in Kumasi , the Minister emphasized the importance of sustained monitoring and supervision in ensuring academic excellence and discipline in second-cycle institutions. He noted that weekend inspections are a critical component in addressing issues related to student welfare, academic performance, and general school administration.
“The government is committed to improving standards in our schools. To this end, we are enhancing the capacity of our inspection units to operate more effectively, including during weekends when some challenges often go unnoticed,” Hon. Iddrisu stated.

He further disclosed that the Ministry will provide the necessary logistical and financial support to the Ghana Education Service (GES) to facilitate these inspections. This includes the provision of vehicles, accommodation, and stipends for inspection officers who will be deployed to schools across the country.
Hon. Iddrisu also called on heads of institutions, teachers, and local education authorities to cooperate fully with inspection teams, stressing that the exercise is aimed at improving the overall quality of education rather than policing schools.
Stakeholders have welcomed the move, noting that consistent monitoring is key to maintaining discipline, safeguarding students, and ensuring the efficient use of teaching and learning resources.
The Ministry of Education is expected to roll out a comprehensive plan in the coming weeks detailing the schedule and scope of the weekend inspections.
