Transport Operators in Ghana consisting of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) and the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council (GRTCC) have rescinded the decision to increase transport fares by 20% from March 20, 2025.
This was announced by the Minister for Transport Minister for Transport, Hon. Joseph Bukari Nikpe.
The Group in a statement on March 18 said the decision follows a meeting with the Transport Minister to discuss issues pertaining to transport operations.

According to the Transport Operators, there is currently no justification for an increase in transport fares as the major cost component of our operations has not significantly increased at the moment.
The Road Transport Operators informed the general public that only GPRTU and GRTCC are mandated to negotiate and announce public transport fares in the country. They urged the public to disregard any announcement on increase in public transport fares which is not emanating from them.
However, the Minister said the transport operators failed to follow due process.
