An IGP does not need to have committed any wrongdoing to be replaced… – Felix Kwakye.

Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Minister of State for Government Communications says an IGP does not need to have committed any wrongdoing to be replaced.

His comment comes after IGP Dr. George Akufo Dampare’s removal from office sparked mixed reactions.

President John Dramani Mahama has removed the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, from his position as part of ongoing discussions about security sector reforms under his administration.

He has appointed COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno as the new IGP, with the swearing-in ceremony scheduled for Friday, March 14.

While no official reason has been given for Dr. Akuffo Dampare’s dismissal, sources suggest the move is part of a broader restructuring effort within the Ghana Police Service.

Dr. Akuffo Dampare, who was appointed IGP in 2021, is widely known for spearheading key policing reforms, including community engagement initiatives and internal discipline measures within the service.

Mr Ofosu added that COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno is the longest-serving police officer who will equally uplift the image of the Police service.
