Research conducted by the Institute of Education Research and Innovation Studies of the University of Education Winneba has identified that the ban on corporal punishment, specifically the use of canes in schools has contributed significantly to the rise in cases of indiscipline in our Senior High Schools.
Other reasons include the overcrowding in schools which forces students, particularly females to look for comfortable spaces outside of school to stay in. The kind of content churned out on social and traditional media is also identified as one of the key factors for the increase in indiscipline.
Sharing these findings, Mr. Andrews Acquah a research fellow at IERIS – UEW said that these findings were made after collecting data from head teachers, parents, students, and housemasters.
