President Mahama to Undertake State Visit to Zambia

President John Dramani Mahama is set to undertake a three-day State Visit to the Republic of Zambia from February 4 to 6, 2026, at the invitation of his Zambian counterpart, President Hakainde Hichilema.

The visit forms part of President Mahama’s broader diplomatic engagements aimed at strengthening Ghana’s relations with fellow African nations and advancing regional economic integration. He will be accompanied by the First Lady, Her Excellency Mrs Lordina Dramani Mahama.

During the visit, President Mahama is expected to hold bilateral talks with President Hichilema on key issues of mutual interest, including the enhancement of diplomatic ties, expansion of trade and investment cooperation, and exploring collaborative opportunities under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

A major highlight of the State Visit will be President Mahama’s address to the National Assembly of Zambia, where he is expected to outline Ghana’s vision for a more integrated, prosperous, and self-reliant Africa. He will also engage with members of the Ghanaian community resident in Lusaka, interacting with compatriots living and working in Zambia.

The visit will further feature a Ghana–Zambia Business Dialogue, to be co-chaired by Presidents Mahama and Hichilema. The dialogue will serve as a platform for Ghana to showcase its digital innovations and fintech capabilities to Zambian businesses and government institutions, with the aim of fostering economic partnerships and promoting knowledge exchange between the two countries.

President Mahama’s visit underscores his commitment to building an Africa that is seamlessly connected through improved transport infrastructure, stronger trade linkages, and the free movement of people and goods across the continent. He remains a strong advocate for the accelerated implementation of the AfCFTA, which he believes is vital for transforming African economies, creating sustainable jobs for the continent’s growing youth population, and positioning Africa competitively in the global economy.
