The Olonka Cup, a prestigious annual football tournament organized by Challenging Heights, reaches its quarter-final stage today, Saturday, January 25, 2025, with eight teams vying for a spot in the semifinals.
The Olonka Cup, founded by Dr. James Kofi Annan has been a highly anticipated event in the Winneba football calendar since its inception. This year’s tournament, which kicked off in July 2024, featured 48 teams from various communities in Winneba, competing in a grueling group stage.
The teams were divided into eight groups, with each group further split into two sub-groups. After a thrilling group stage, where each team played three matches, 16 teams emerged to contest the round of 16.
The knockout stage saw eight teams advance to the quarter-finals, which commence today at the Winneba United Park, Sankor. The quarterfinal matchups promise to be exciting, with Kwendrum K.D.M facing off against Low Cost F.C. in the opening match.
The other quarterfinalists include Paradise Rock Stars, North Campus F.C, Mburabamu Stars, Dayasaw Dove City, Silva Krom F.C, and East Way 50/50. These teams will battle it out for a spot in the semifinals, with the ultimate goal of lifting the coveted Olonka Cup trophy.
