Nana Agyei Baffour-Awuah, Member of Parliament for Manhyia South and a legal practitioner has advised President John Mahama to consult the Council of State before taking any action on a petition seeking the removal of the Chief Justice.
The petition, which has sparked national debate, calls for the removal of the Chief Justice over alleged misconduct and abuse of office. While some legal analysts argue that the President has the authority to act on the petition, Baffour-Awuah insists that constitutional procedures must be strictly followed.

According to the MP, he emphasized that the Council of State plays a crucial advisory role in matters of such national significance and should be engaged to ensure that due process is followed.
“The removal of a Chief Justice is a matter of constitutional importance. The President must not act in haste but rather consult the Council of State, which is mandated to provide advice on such critical issues,” Baffour-Awuah stated.
He further noted that any decision made without proper consultation could set a dangerous precedent and undermine judicial independence.
Legal experts have echoed similar sentiments, urging the government to ensure transparency and adherence to constitutional provisions in addressing the petition. The coming days are expected to be crucial as the President considers his next steps regarding the controversial petition.
