In a crucial statement aimed at ensuring fiscal transparency and accountability, Dr. Amin Adams, former finance minister urged the administration of President John Dramani Mahama to ensure that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) adhered strictly to the agreed methods for computing Ghana’s fiscal data.
His call, made during a press conference from the side of the minority in parliament emphasized the importance of accuracy and consistency in how government finances are reported and assessed.

Dr. Adams, who has long been an advocate for sound economic policy and fiscal responsibility, highlighted the vital role that accurate data plays in shaping the country’s economic policies and in the global perception of Ghana’s financial health.
He emphasized that adherence to internationally recognized standards—such as the Government Finance Statistics Manual (GFSM) and the System of National Accounts (SNA)—was crucial for maintaining credibility and ensuring that Ghana’s fiscal position was fairly represented in international circles.
The IMF, which regularly monitors the fiscal performance of member countries, uses specific methods to assess the financial health of nations. Dr. Adams stressed that Ghana, under President Mahama’s leadership, should align with these methods to avoid discrepancies that could harm the country’s standing in the global financial community.
According to him, the previous administration did better in the global financial community.
