Fuel Price Hike: Drivers and Fuel Station Workers Share Their Frustrations.

Drivers and fuel station workers in Winneba expressed their concerns about the recent fuel price increase and its impact on their livelihoods.

“Working from morning to evening and earning minimal profits is challenging. With a wife and girlfriend to support, it’s even more difficult,” one driver stated. He emphasized that the fuel price hike affects drivers significantly, and reducing taxes on fuel would help decrease fares, making transportation more affordable for passengers, including UEW students.

Another driver suggested that the new government would eventually address the issue, but for now, drivers are struggling to make ends meet. “When fuel prices increase, transportation fares remain the same, making it difficult for us to profit,” he explained.

The GPRTU’s role in setting transportation fares was also criticized, as drivers feel they are not adequately represented. “We don’t have the authority to increase fares, so we’re suffering,” one driver said.

Fuel station workers shared similar concerns, stating that some drivers are accustomed to price fluctuations and buy fuel regardless. However, others complain about the constant price changes, which can lead to lost customers. “It’s worrying for us, as different fuel stations have different prices,” a worker noted.

Overall, the fuel price hike has created a challenging environment for drivers and fuel station workers, who are hoping for a price reduction to alleviate their struggles.
