The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has strongly condemned the acts of violence and lawlessness that marred the Ghana Premier League match between Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Nsoatreman FC on February 2, 2025, at Nana Kronamansah Park. The tragic events resulted in the loss of life, several injuries, and the destruction of property—an unacceptable blemish on the integrity of the game.
The GFA has extended its deepest condolences to the family of the deceased and wishes a swift recovery to those injured. In a decisive action, the Executive Committee of the GFA has invoked Article 14(2) of the Premier League Regulations, banning the use of the Nsoatreman FC home venue until further notice. This action ensures the safety of all stakeholders while investigations proceed ¹.
Furthermore, the GFA has tasked the Security Committee, led by DCOP Lydia Donkor, and the FA Prosecutors to immediately gather all necessary evidence, including match reports and relevant documentation, to present to the FA’s Disciplinary Committee. The Committee will investigate the incident and take appropriate action against those found culpable.
The GFA’s swift response demonstrates its commitment to maintaining the integrity of the game and ensuring the safety of all stakeholders. The association’s zero-tolerance policy for violence and hooliganism is clear, and it will not hesitate to impose severe sanctions on any club, official, or supporter found guilty of engaging in or inciting such behaviour.

In a similar incident last year, the GFA condemned misconduct at matches and warned clubs, officials, and supporters that strong action would be taken against culprits. The association reminded clubs, team officials, and supporters of their responsibilities and duties to exhibit behaviors of respect, fair play, and tolerance before, during, and after all football matches ².
As the investigation into the Nsoatreman FC and Asante Kotoko match incident proceeds, the GFA’s commitment to restoring confidence in the domestic league remains steadfast. The association’s efforts to develop Ghanaian football will not be undermined by acts of violence and lawlessness.
