Former President John Mahama has announced an initiative to establish a National Education Review Conference aimed at enhancing Ghana’s educational framework across all levels. This forward-thinking conference intends to thoroughly assess the educational landscape from kindergarten to tertiary education, including technical and vocational training.
During his address at the National Convention of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission Ghana in Winneba, Mr. Mahama emphasized the importance of evaluating the current system to identify and overcome various challenges that hinder educational quality. He stated, “I will form a planning committee to spearhead the National Education Review Conference. This initiative will delve into our educational system, pinpointing the obstacles at each level and enabling us to develop actionable solutions.”
Mr. Mahama expressed confidence that the conference will inspire innovative ideas to enhance educational outcomes, aligning them with the nation’s developmental goals. He underlined the importance of creating equitable and quality learning opportunities for all students.
“By strengthening basic education and continuing to enhance the Free Senior High School initiative, we will address challenges such as overcrowding, ensuring that quality education is accessible at every level,” he affirmed.
He detailed a holistic vision for the future, including the proposal of free tuition for first-year students entering public tertiary institutions, the completion of ongoing E-block projects, and significant investments to promote equal learning opportunities nationwide. He stated, “These initiatives will equip our youth with the essential skills needed to thrive in an evolving world. We will place a strong emphasis on technical, vocational education, and training (TVET) to cultivate the skilled workforce that businesses and industries require.”
