President John Mahama has made it clear that his government will prioritize completing unfinished healthcare projects to enhance accessibility and the quality of healthcare throughout the country. He stated emphatically, “We will resume and operationalize abandoned health projects as essential steps towards expanding healthcare access nationwide.”
During his address at the National Convention of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission in Winneba on Thursday, January 9, just days after being sworn into office, the president reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to the nation’s health sector. He assured the people of Ghana, “We will invest decisively in both infrastructure and human resources to guarantee accessible, high-quality medical care.”
Before his victory in the December 7 election, Mr. Mahama pledged to take charge of and complete all neglected projects across the nation, should he be entrusted with leadership. In particular, he aims to focus on finalizing the previous government’s Agenda 111 initiative, which seeks to construct 111 hospitals and three psychiatric hospitals nationwide, especially in districts that currently lack essential healthcare facilities. It is notable that, out of the 111 hospitals planned, only three have been completed by the previous administration, and they remain non-operational.
