The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has announced that the Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially closed its teacher recruitment application portal, just days after it was opened on April 10, 2026.

Addressing the media, the Minister revealed that the decision to shut down the portal was taken following an overwhelming response from applicants across the country. According to him, the Service received more than 40,000 applications within a short period, far exceeding the 7,000 teaching positions available.
Mr. Iddrisu noted that the high number of applications reflects the growing interest among graduates in the teaching profession, but also highlights the challenge of limited employment opportunities within the education sector.
He assured the public that the recruitment process would be conducted fairly and transparently, with only qualified candidates to be selected for the available positions.
The Minister further indicated that successful applicants will be duly contacted after the vetting and selection process is completed.
