Black Stars forward Antoine Semenyo has expressed confidence ahead of Ghana’s upcoming international friendly against Austria, describing the match as a crucial opportunity for the team to signal their readiness for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Black Stars will take on Austria in the first of two friendlies scheduled for the March international break, as part of their build-up to the global showpiece. With expectations rising, the Bournemouth forward is optimistic about Ghana’s chances and the team’s overall preparedness.
Hopefully, I’m expecting a win. We want to make a statement — we are preparing for the World Cup, so hopefully a win,” Semenyo said, underlining the team’s determination to approach the game with purpose and intensity.
Ghana will be making its fifth appearance at the World Cup, having first featured at the tournament in Germany in 2006. Since then, the Black Stars have grown into one of Africa’s most consistent performers on the global stage.
Following the clash with Austria, Ghana will face Germany in their second friendly just three days later, before players return to their respective clubs.
The two matches are expected to offer the head coach valuable insight into the squad’s form, cohesion, and readiness as preparations intensify for the 2026 tournament.
