$96 million spent on the National Cathedral can pay for the 4 new helicopters for the Ghana Air Force – Ato Forson

Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson has stated that the $96 million already spent on the National Cathedral project would have been enough to fully pay for the four new helicopters being procured for the Ghana Air Force.

Addressing Parliament, Dr. Ato Forson pointed out that the amount sunk into the stalled cathedral project is equivalent to the cost of the aircraft the government is securing, arguing that Ghana could have made more strategic use of those funds.

He further clarified that the procurement of the helicopters is being carried out without any middlemen, stressing that the Ghana Armed Forces are acquiring the aircraft through a direct government-to-government transaction.

“Let the records reflect: no middleman, just a straightforward transaction,” he emphasized, assuring that the process is transparent and designed to ensure maximum value for the state.

The Finance Minister noted that the acquisition of the helicopters is part of efforts to strengthen the country’s air capabilities and enhance national security.
