Government Renews Curfew in Bawku Municipality Amid Ongoing Security Concerns

The Government of Ghana has renewed the curfew imposed on Bawku Municipality and its surrounding communities in the Upper East Region, as security tensions in the area continue to pose risks to lives and property.

The new curfew, announced by the Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, will run from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., effective Monday, November 24, 2025.

According to the Ministry, the decision was made on the advice of the National Security Council and implemented through an Executive Instrument. The renewal is part of ongoing efforts to maintain law and order as security agencies work to stabilize the area.

The Ministry also stressed that the total ban on the possession of arms, ammunition, and any offensive weapons in the area remains firmly in place.

Individuals found carrying such items during the curfew period will be arrested and prosecuted, the statement warned.

The renewed curfew forms part of broader national security operations aimed at preventing the escalation of violence in Bawku, a town that has experienced recurring tensions over the years.

Government reaffirmed its commitment to working with local leaders, security services, and residents to restore lasting peace and stability.

The statement was officially signed and issued by Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, Minister for the Interior, on 24th November, 2025.
