AG freezes assets of former Buffer Stock CEO and wife over corruption probe.

The Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has announced that the assets of the former Chief Executive Officer of the National Food and Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO), Abdul-Wahab Hanan, and his wife, Faiza Seidu Wuni, have been frozen, with steps underway to have them confiscated.

Speaking at the Government Accountability Series on Wednesday, October 22, Dr. Ayine disclosed that investigators have frozen a fixed deposit account belonging to Mr. Hanan at Republic Bank’s Labone Branch in Accra, containing GHS10 million.

He added that several vehicles and over 61 luxury handbags linked to the couple have also been seized as part of ongoing investigations.

Dr. Ayine noted that the move forms part of efforts to recover state funds allegedly diverted during Mr. Hanan’s tenure at NAFCO and to prevent the dissipation of suspected proceeds of crime.

“We have frozen all these assets and will be taking steps to have them confiscated by the state in the course of the criminal proceedings. Also, in terms of liquid assets, we have frozen a fixed deposit account belonging to Mr. Hannan containing Ghs 10,000,000.00 with Republic Bank, Labone Branch, Accra. Additionally, we have also frozen several vehicles and over 61 luxury handbags,” he revealed.
Other properties allegedly acquired by the couple are as follows:

    1. 17-bedroom boutique hotel at Gumani in Tamale, in respect of which the couple used Fa-Hausa Company Limited to sign a franchise with Villa Monticello for $250,000.00 in order to hide the hotel under the brand name of Villa Monticello.
  1. 4-bedroom bungalow situated at Dworwulu, Accra, valued at Ghs4,142,451.00.
  2. A story building (Chicken Republic) situated at Estate Junction, Tamale;
  3. Five-bedroom mansion at Kanvili, Dorado Street, Tamale
  4. Three-bedroom house, Kpalsi, Tamale
  5. One-story building, No. 10 Selby Gardens, Achimota, Accra
  6. 27-acre plot of land, Estate Junction, Tamale
  7. 29-acre land, Close to Workers College, Tamale
