Ghana edges Comoros in Hard-Fought Victory at Baba Yara Stadium.

The Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi erupted in celebration on Sunday night as the Black Stars of Ghana defeated the Coelacanths of Comoros in a tense World Cup qualifying encounter. The 1–0 triumph reignited Ghana’s hopes of reaching the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with Mohammed Kudus emerging as the hero of the night.

From the blast of the whistle, Ghana dominated possession, dictating the tempo through a fluid midfield anchored by Thomas Partey and Abdul Samed. The home side created several chances, with Jordan Ayew and Antoine Semenyo testing the Comorian goalkeeper early in the game. However, it was Kudus who finally broke the deadlock in the 57th minute with a trademark curling strike that sent the crowd into raptures.

Comoros, known for its resilience, refused to go down quietly. The visitors threatened a late comeback, forcing goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi into two crucial saves to preserve Ghana’s narrow lead. Despite a few nervy moments, the Black Stars held firm until the final whistle.

Head coach Otto Addo praised his team’s character and composure, saying, “We knew Comoros would be tough, but the boys stayed disciplined and got the job done. It’s a step in the right direction for our qualification campaign.”

The win at Baba Yara Stadium keeps Ghana firmly in contention for top spot in their qualifying group. The Black Stars now shift focus to their next fixture, determined to build on this crucial home victory and move closer to securing their ticket to North America 2026.
