24-Hour Economy set to kick off July 2

The government of Ghana has confirmed that its much-anticipated 24-hour economy initiative will officially be launched on Wednesday, July 2, 2025.

Presidential Advisor on the policy, Goosie Tanoh, made the announcement during the presentation of the final policy document to the Speaker of Parliament on Thursday, June 26.

The 24-hour economy—one of the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) flagship campaign promises during the 2024 elections—is aimed at tackling unemployment and boosting productivity by promoting continuous, round-the-clock economic activity.

Tanoh emphasized the government’s readiness to implement the program, stating that the policy is grounded in three main pillars: transforming production, improving supply chain and market systems, and enhancing human capital.

“These foundational anchors are supported by eight strategic sub-programs,” he said.

Among the sub-programs highlighted were:

Roll 24 – focused on modernizing agriculture;
Make 24 – targeting industrial and manufacturing growth;
Connect 24 – aimed at optimizing supply chains;
Aspire 24 – a cultural shift to promote a productivity-driven national mindset.

A key feature of the policy is the integration of digital skills training into the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) curriculum, equipping young Ghanaians for emerging job opportunities.

Additionally, the ‘Show Ghana’ initiative will spotlight the country’s cultural assets to boost tourism and generate foreign revenue.

Responding to the presentation, Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin welcomed the initiative but urged the government to pursue legislative backing to secure the policy’s longevity.

He advised the 24-hour Economy Secretariat to collaborate with lawmakers on a bill that would institutionalize the program, ensuring its continuity beyond changes in political leadership.

The July 2 launch will mark a pivotal step in what the government describes as a bold new era of economic transformation in Ghana.
