President John Mahama has addressed the issue of cholera in Ghana, emphasizing the need for improved sanitation and hygiene practices to prevent the spread of the disease.
He stated since October last year Ghana has faced a massive cholera outbreak and as of February 17th, 2025, over 6000 suspected cases of cholera,545 confirmed to be cholera and unfortunately 49 reported dead.
To address this issue, the Ghana Health Service (GHS) launched a vaccination campaign against cholera.
The campaign aims to vaccinate all residents in selected communities, with a focus on individuals aged 1 year and above. The vaccine used is safe and effective in preventing cholera.
Ghana has been taking proactive measures to prevent and control cholera outbreaks through vaccination campaigns and other initiatives.

Meningitis is a serious and potentially life-threatening infection that affects the membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord. Ghana has experienced periodic outbreaks of meningitis, particularly during the dry season.
Mahama’s administration took steps to address meningitis outbreaks, including vaccination campaigns and improved surveillance and reporting mechanisms.
He has also highlighted the importance of public education and awareness campaigns to inform people about the risks and symptoms of meningitis, as well as the need for early treatment.
