Coronavirus Update: Central Region Records 32 cases

Central region has recorded 32 new cases of COVID-19. The region, which recorded its first case on April 8, has within the space of less than 1 month seen a hike in its cases from 1 to 32. A statement from the Central Regional Health Directorate and cited by Nycefmonline indicates that the region as of 2nd May,2020 recorded 32 Coronavirus positive cases.

The confirmation comes after 1,728 samples were taken for testing, out of which 1, 024 were confirmed negative with 32 being positive and 675 results still pending. The statement explained that 3 out of the confirmed cases were imported from the Greater Accra region.

One person has been discharged whilst the 31 active cases are responding to treatment

The district distribution are as follows:

Awutu Senya Municipality (Kasoa) – 16

Cape coast Municipality – 9

Komenda/Edina/Eguafo/Abirem Muncipality- 2

Abura Asebu Kwamankese District – 2

Effutu Municipality – 1

Ajumako/Enyan/Esiam District – 1

Mfantseman Municipality – 1

Next Steps/Recommendations

Authorities of the region says they will continue to engage their DCEs and other opinion leaders to secure quarantine facilities to hold contacts for monitoring. Ensuring adequate management of all confirmed cases, intensify surveillance along the coasts and put fishermen travelling into the country under mandatory quarantine and continue with risk communication and engagement of various stakeholders to solicit support for COVID-19 activities and adherence to all preventive measures such as social distancing,wearing of face masks, respiratory etiquette, proper handwashing among others have been employed in the bid to contain the outbreak of the pandemic.
