ECG recovers more than Gh2 billion from debtors in a single month – MD

The Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has revealed that the firm has been able to recover more than GH2 billion from debt in the last month following the debt retrieval campaign that the company began on.

In separate radio interviews on Monday, April 17, 2023, the ECG MD, Samuel Dubik Mahama, made this announcement.

ECG started a month-long operation to collect debts from clients on Monday, March 20, 2023.

The company aimed to recover GH5.7 billion.

The goal of the nationwide revenue mobilization effort was to collect from its clients all overdue bills totaling GH5.7 billion.

Domestic consumers, companies, organizations, government ministries, departments, and state agencies were the targets for power previously used from February 2022 to February 2023.

The company temporarily closed down all its administrative offices and deployed its staff to be collectors on the field during the one-month period.

With the operation expected to end Thursday, April 20, 2023, the MD’s disclosure indicates that almost 50 percent of the target has been achieved.

The Managing Director said the next phase of the exercise was to target illegal connections, especially targeted at those who have bypassed ECG metres and are consuming power without paying for it.
