Samira Bawumia promises to offer books to increase literacy in Ghana.

Samira Bawumia, the second lady, has promised to make educational materials available in an effort to raise the nation’s existing literacy rate.

At the Samira Bawumia Literature Prize Awards ceremony on Thursday in Accra, the Second Lady announced a commitment to increase the scope of her Samira Empowerment & Humanitarian Projects (SEHP) and make commitments to encourage reading among Ghanaians.

Samira Bawumia stated that her organization will continue to assist aspiring young Ghanaian authors while supporting the nation’s expanding literary scene.

People from many backgrounds came together to celebrate the literary accomplishments of elementary and secondary school children at the awards event, which was held in Accra at the Institute of Statistical Social and Economic Research (ISSER) Conference Hall of the University of Ghana.

“We are going to continue with this awards ceremony and publish the anthology of all the winning entries and give it some breathing time and hold the next awards ceremony after a year,” the Second Lady said.

Contestants of the literacy challenge won various prizes worth thousands of Ghana Cedis.

The first-place winners were awarded laptops and cash prizes of GH¢5000, second-place winners were given GH¢3000, and GH¢2000 for third place winners and 4th to 10th place winners in each category were awarded GH¢1000.
