James Kofi Annan applauds stakeholders for objecting grant of Muni Ramsar Site mining right [Statement]

STATEMENT BY DR. JAMES KOFI ANNAN, PRESIDENT OF CHALLENGING HEIGHTS, ON THE MINERAL RIGHTS TO A MINING FIRM AT THE MUNI RAMSAR SITE AND THE ABOAKYER HUNTING GROUNDS.

July 8, 2022.

My attention has been drawn to a letter dated July 8, 2022, from the Minerals Commission to the Omanhene of the Effutu Traditional Area, on the purported mineral rights to a mining firm, Green Metal Resources Limited.

I write to express my heartfelt appreciation to the Omanhene of Effutu, Neenyi Ghartey VII, as well as the leadership and entire members of the two Asafo companies(Tuafo No. 1 and Dentsifo No. 2) for the resilience and unity demonstrated so far, in objecting to the grant of a mineral rights to the abovementioned firm.

This is one of the privileged occasions to be called an indigenous citizen of the Effutu State, and I am happy to have played instrumental role in that regard.

As I finally encourage all citizens and stakeholders of Effutu to remain resolute and follow this issue until a befitting finality of protecting our territory and cultural heritage is reached. I continue to pledge my unflinching support at all times to the pursuit of causes that seeks to protect the interest and development of Effutu.

Signed
Mr Nathaniel Akyeampong.
