President John Dramani Mahama has declared that Ghana’s economy is regaining stability and momentum, telling Parliament that the country has entered a new phase of recovery and growth.

Presenting the 2026 State of the Nation Address on Friday, 27 February, the President said his administration’s policies are beginning to produce measurable results, despite the difficult conditions that initially confronted the government.
“I was clear from the outset that recovery would not come easily, but I was also clear that I would stop at nothing to turn this situation around and bring relief to Ghanaians,” he told Members of Parliament.
President Mahama recalled his earlier pledge to reset the economy and steer it back onto a sustainable path of progress.
“I promised then that just as I have confronted and overcome crises in the past, I would reset our economy and return us to a path of growth, progress, and development,” he said.
He emphasised that restoring confidence required bold and sometimes painful decisions.
“Mr Speaker, we had to take tough, prudent, and necessary decisions to restore stability and credibility. Today, I can say with confidence that Ghana is back and working again. Ghana is open for business.”
According to the President, key macroeconomic indicators are improving, reflecting stronger fundamentals and renewed investor confidence. He explained that the government deliberately prioritised fiscal discipline and structural reforms over short-term political expediency.
“From the outset, we chose discipline over waste, reform over excuses, and stability over speculation,” he stated.
He further disclosed that one of the administration’s first actions was to bring order to public finances by tightening expenditure controls, enhancing transparency in reporting government obligations, and auditing financial commitments made in 2024.
“These measures have begun to deliver some of the most remarkable economic outcomes in decades,” he said.
With Ghana preparing to celebrate its 69th Independence Anniversary, President Mahama expressed optimism about the nation’s future, noting that the country is building prosperity through responsible governance and inclusive growth.
“Our Resetting Ghana agenda is working. The nation is on the runway and in takeoff mode,” he remarked.
The address reaffirmed the government’s focus on sustaining fiscal discipline, deepening economic reforms, and strengthening confidence in Ghana’s financial and institutional systems.
