CETAG suspends nationwide strike.

The Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) has officially suspended its nationwide strike action, effective immediately, following the government’s release of funds to address key outstanding payments.

In a memorandum dated February 14, 2026, and signed by the National Council, CETAG announced that the decision was reached unanimously during a meeting held between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. on the same day. The strike, which was declared on November 24, 2025, had disrupted academic activities across the country’s Colleges of Education for several weeks.
According to the statement, the government has released funds to facilitate the payment of critical entitlements owed to members. These include the All Year-Round Work Compensation, the 2023/2024 Book and Research Allowance arrears, and the 2022 Research Top-Up Allowance for staff of Akrokerri College of Education.

The Council described the development as a significant step toward resolving long-standing concerns raised by members. Although two additional issues remain outstanding and are currently before the National Labour Commission (NLC) for adjudication, CETAG expressed confidence in the Commission’s ability to expedite action on the matters.

“In view of the above progress and in the spirit of good faith, we respectfully appeal to all members to resume academic activities and return to the lecture halls on Monday, February 16, 2026,” the memorandum stated.

The National Council further commended members for their solidarity, patience, and unwavering support throughout the period of industrial action.

The suspension is expected to restore normal academic work in Colleges of Education across Ghana as students and lecturers return to classrooms beginning Monday
