Injuries Force Two Stars Out of Black Stars Camp Ahead of South Korea Clash

The Black Stars have been hit with a fresh wave of injury setbacks as head coach Otto Addo prepares his squad for their upcoming international friendly against South Korea. Two key players — Mohammed Salisu and Antoine Semenyo — have withdrawn from camp after suffering injuries, leaving Ghana’s technical team with major decisions to make.

The news comes at a difficult time, as the Black Stars are already dealing with the blow of Abu Francis’ long-term injury, sustained earlier this month. The latest exits reduce Ghana’s available squad to just 19 fit players, tightening Addo’s tactical options for the highly anticipated fixture in Seoul.

Defender Mohammed Salisu, a crucial figure in Ghana’s backline, has been diagnosed with a bilateral medial collateral ligament (MCL) sprain. Medical examinations conducted by both AS Monaco and the Ghana medical staff confirmed the severity of the injury, making it impossible for him to continue with the team.

Forward Antoine Semenyo also failed to recover after suffering a left anterior talo-fibular ligament sprain during Ghana’s friendly against Japan. The Bournemouth attacker aggravated the injury in training, forcing him to return to England for further assessment and recovery.

Both players departed camp over the weekend and are expected to undergo treatment with their respective clubs.

The timing of the injuries has created significant tactical headaches for Otto Addo. Salisu’s absence leaves a big gap in central defense, while Semenyo’s withdrawal reduces Ghana’s attacking firepower at a time when the team is looking to bounce back from their 2–0 loss to Japan.

With limited time to adjust, Addo will now rely heavily on the younger and less experienced players in camp.
