Government to Acquire Six New Aircraft for Ghana Armed Forces – Finance Minister Ato Forson Announces

The Government of Ghana has announced plans to acquire six new aircraft for the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) as part of efforts to strengthen the nation’s air defense and security capabilities.

The announcement was made by Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson during the presentation of the 2026 Budget Statement and Economic Policy to Parliament on Thursday, November 13, 2025.
According to Dr. Forson, the fleet will include four modern helicopters, one long-range aircraft, and one medium-range aircraft, all expected to be delivered within the next four years.

The government has approved the procurement of four modern helicopters, one long-range, and one medium-range aircraft for the Ghana Armed Forces. These assets will significantly enhance our military’s operational capacity, improve rapid response, and support peacekeeping operations,” he announced.

The acquisition forms part of the government’s broader defense modernization programme, aimed at improving the logistics, surveillance, and operational readiness of the Armed Forces amid increasing regional security challenges.

The Finance Minister highlighted that the move reflects the administration’s commitment to ensuring national security and supporting Ghana’s peacekeeping commitments across Africa.
