The Member of Parliament for Asutifi North has issued a press statement addressing a recent incident.

The Member of Parliament for Asutifi North, Hon. Ebenezer Kwaku Addo, has issued a press statement addressing a recent incident involving some residents of Asutifi South and a Military Taskforce deployed on a national assignment (NAIMOS).

According to the MP, the events unfolded on November 1, 2025, when he was on his way to attend a funeral at Acherensua in the Asutifi South Constituency. He reached out to Hon. Collins Dauda, the MP for Asutifi South, to coordinate their attendance. However, Hon. Dauda informed him that he was outside the country.

Upon reaching Hwidiem, Hon. Addo noticed rising tension in the town and was informed that military operations were underway at a gold extraction site. Concerned about the situation, he contacted Hon. Dauda to brief him, after which he was asked to visit the site and engage the military personnel to understand the situation.

At the site, Hon. Addo, accompanied by his constituency Vice Chairman and driver, introduced himself to the military team and spoke with their leader. Observing a gathering of youth at the scene, he advised that all parties move to the police station to make an official report and hand over any items or suspects to the authorities to de-escalate tensions.

Upon arrival at the Hwidiem Police Station, it was discovered that the main road had been blocked, halting vehicular movement. The MP, alongside the Regional Police Crime Officer, NIB operatives, and the Kenyasi Police Commander, worked together to maintain calm while statements were taken. Hon. Addo further contacted the Zongo Chief of Hwidiem to help mediate and ease tensions, which he did successfully.

The MP reported that after concluding the handover of items to the Regional Crime Officer, the Zongo Chief offered his Toyota Sequoia vehicle to transport the military officers, as their original pickup vehicle had reportedly been tampered with.
