A five-bedroom building was razed by fire at New Winneba in the Effutu Municipality on Wednesday around 8:30am, leaving residents in shock and frustration.

According to eyewitnesses, an elderly woman who was inside the house at the time of the incident was rescued by some brave residents before the flames spread throughout the building. Fortunately, no casualties were recorded, but properties running into thousands of cedis were destroyed.
Speaking to our reporter, Akosua Sarpong, some residents expressed their disappointment in the Ghana National Fire Service. They lamented that the fire officers arrived at the scene without a functioning fire tender.
They told us their vehicle was not working. Both the Apam and Swedru fire tenders are also not in good condition,” one resident said.
The residents have therefore appealed to the authorities to intervene urgently and ensure that fire tenders in the area are repaired and made operational to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The cause of the fire is yet to be established as investigations continue.
