Head coach of the Black Queens, Kim Björkegren, has announced his final squad for Ghana’s crucial Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) 2026 qualifier against Egypt. The highly anticipated fixture will determine which team advances to the next round of the continental competition.

The Swedish tactician, who has been rebuilding the Black Queens since taking over, maintained the core of his team that impressed in recent international friendlies while adding a few new faces to strengthen key positions.
The squad features captain Portia Boakye, midfield maestro Priscilla Adubea, and in-form forward Evelyn Badu, who continues to shine for Norwegian side Avaldsnes. Defender Janet Egyir and goalkeeper Cynthia Findib Konlan also retain their spots, providing much-needed experience and stability at the back.
Coach Kim emphasized the importance of balance in his selection, noting that both local and foreign-based players will have vital roles to play.
“This is a very important game for us. Egypt are strong and organized, but we believe in our preparation and our unity. The team is ready to fight for qualification,” he said at the squad unveiling in Accra.
Among the notable inclusions are Comfort Yeboah from Ampem Darkoa Ladies and Azumah Bugre, who recently returned from injury. Their addition injects youthful energy and versatility into the squad.
Björkegren also praised the Ghana Women’s Premier League clubs for their contribution to player development, describing the local league as a “vital foundation” for national success.
Ghana will host Egypt in the first leg in Accra before traveling to Cairo for the return encounter. The aggregate winner will book a spot in the WAFCON 2026 tournament, to be held in Morocco.
The Black Queens, who missed out on the last WAFCON edition, are determined to make a strong comeback and reclaim their place among Africa’s elite women’s football nations.
