GHS to Vaccinate Girls Against Cervical Cancer Today

The Ghana Health Service, in partnership with the Government of Ghana, will officially begin the vaccination of girls against cervical cancer caused by HPV today, Tuesday, 7th October 2025.

The aim is to protect young girls aged 9 to 14 years from cervical cancer.

Speaking in an interview with Nyce FM during a stakeholders’ engagement, the Effutu Municipal Health Director, Dr. Paulette Brown, stated that the vaccination program will be conducted in various schools within the municipality.

Dr. Brown explained that the primary goal is to protect girls before they are exposed to the Human Papillomavirus (HPV), a major cause of cervical cancer. HPV is a preventable, sexually transmitted infection.

She assured parents that the vaccine will not affect the girls’ ability to give birth in the future. The goal, she emphasized, is to offer protection before the girls become sexually active, as HPV is primarily transmitted through sexual contact.

She also appealed to parents to allow their daughters to participate in the vaccination exercise.
