Health Minister, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, together with the Inspector General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, and other officials received the DNA results at the Kotoka International Airport on Sunday, August 10, 2025.
Samples of remains of the eight victims who died in the military helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 06, 2025, were sent to South Africa for DNA analysis on August 7 to help identify each of the bodies for befitting burial.

The government received two of the results, that of Dr Murtala Mohammed and Alhaji Muniru electronically on Saturday, August 9, paving the way for their burial according to Islamic tradition on Sunday, August 10, 2025.
This was disclosed by President Mahama during his remarks at the burial of the two Muslim victims of the helicopter crash on Sunday.
“Unfortunately, the state in which the bodies were made it difficult for us to identify positively which was which, and that’s why we have to go through the scientific process of identifying. Happily, that process was ended yesterday (Saturday, August 9), and that’s why we have to bury ahead.
“As I speak, the forensic results for the rest have also arrived, and so in consultation with their families, how their funerals should be held,” he stated.
