On July 28, 2025, President John Dramani Mahama officially confirmed that 400 officers of the Ghana Armed Forces had been deployed to the Bawku area to carry out targeted security operations. The deployment aims to address the escalating violence stemming from the long-standing chieftaincy dispute between the Mamprusi and Kusaasi communities.

The Bawku enclave has recently experienced a resurgence of deadly clashes, including attacks that led to the deaths of a Kusaasi chief and three high school students.
The deployed officers are tasked with stabilizing the region, enforcing emergency measures—including a curfew from 14:00 GMT to 06:00 GMT—and supporting safe evacuations of students and residents.
