The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin has charged the newly sworn-in Member of Parliament (MP) for Ablekuma North, Ewurabena Aubynn, to be committed, calm, and diligent in her new role.

Addressing the House after administering the oath of office on Tuesday, Speaker Bagbin advised the new MP to embrace discipline and humility as she begins her legislative duties, emphasising that the people of Ablekuma North had reposed their trust in her and expect improved livelihoods.
“I will take this opportunity to congratulate you and also urge you to be punctual, ever-present in Parliament, be calm, listen more, learn from your colleagues, but please read everything and not only the Constitution and the Standing Orders.
“You are now the hope of the people in the constituency. They are looking up to you to do something to improve their lives. It is a trust, and this I pray you don’t abuse,” he stressed.
Bagbin reminded Aubynn of the short nature of the four-year parliamentary term, cautioning that her future in politics will depend on her performance.
“Four years is just a day. You will go back to them, and they will assess you this time based on your performance. So please don’t be misled by other people,” he warned.
Ahead of Aubynn’s swearing-in, the minority caucus staged a walkout moments before the ceremony. Their protest was in response to the Speaker’s refusal to grant a request from Minority Chief Whip Frank Annor Dompreh to make a statement ahead of the swearing-in.
Her assumption of office comes after a high-stakes parliamentary rerun in the Ablekuma North constituency earlier this month.
The Electoral Commission (EC) conducted the rerun in 19 polling stations following disputes over the December 2024 election results, which were marred by issues such as unauthenticated pink sheets and procedural irregularities.
The EC cited unsigned result forms, discrepancies in vote tallies, and violations during the collation process as the reasons for withholding the initial outcome.
In the rerun, Ewurabena Aubynn of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) emerged victorious with 34,090 votes, narrowly defeating the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Akua Afriyie, who secured 33,881 votes.
