The Government has expanded the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy to cover 60 private schools across the country, marking a significant milestone since the policy’s launch under the Akufo-Addo administration.

This development is expected to ease congestion in public SHSs while promoting equitable access to quality education in both public and private institutions.
The initiative has been welcomed by the Ghana National Council of Private Schools (GNACOPS), which describes it as a crucial step toward inclusive educational reform.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to verify the approved list of private SHSs through the Ministry of Education, the Ghana Education Service (GES), or the GNACOPS platforms.
Benita Sena Okity-Duah, the Coordinator for the Free Senior High School (SHS) Secretariat, said they will put them in a special category next year.
