Former Asante Kotoko captain and goalkeeper Frederick Asare is on the verge of a major move to South Africa, as reports confirm he is closing in on a deal with newly-promoted Premiership side Durban City FC.

Asare officially left Asante Kotoko in June 2025 after his contract expired. During his three-year stay, he featured 15 times in the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season, keeping seven clean sheets and conceding 12 goals.
He also led Kotoko to the 2025 MTN FA Cup and earned a Black Stars call‑up, underscoring his quality and leadership.
Sources in Ghana and South Africa report that Asare has arrived in Durban to finalize a move with Durban City FC. His medical is scheduled soon, with a contract expected to follow shortly.
The club reportedly issued his flight for July 1, 2025, and arrangements are underway to integrate him into the squad following the appointment of head coach Gavin Hunt.
