Central Regional Minister Urges Ghanaians to Value Skilled Work

The Central Regional Minister, Hon. Ekow Okyere Panyin Eduamoah, has called on Ghanaians to rethink their attitude towards skilled and artisan work, emphasizing its pivotal role in propelling the country’s economy forward. Speaking at the Central Regional House of Chiefs, Hon. Eduamoah lamented the long-standing disregard for skilled work in Ghana, despite its immense contributions to national growth.

Hon. Eduamoah highlighted the significance of skilled workers, including mechanical engineers, drivers, fashion designers, and carpenters, in driving Ghana’s economic growth. He stressed that these individuals are crucial to the country’s development, and their contributions should be valued and recognized.

The Minister urged Ghanaians to discard the notion that skilled work is only suitable for academically poor individuals. This perception, he said, has hindered the country’s development and must be changed to promote a more inclusive and supportive environment for skilled workers.

Hon. Eduamoah referenced the John Dramani Mahama-led administration’s initiative to introduce the National Apprenticeship Programme, aimed at equipping Ghanaians with valuable skills. This program, he said, would help address unemployment and promote economic growth.

The Minister also charged Chiefs to exercise their authority by penalizing individuals who refuse to participate in communal labor for community sanitation and environmental upkeep. This, he said, would help maintain a clean and healthy environment, essential for the well-being of citizens.

Nana Ohemaa Naase Nkwanta Otuba III Chief of Senya Breku Traditional Area, acknowledged the Minister’s concerns, stating that most of the land has been misused and expressing his commitment to enforcing the Minister’s directives. This collaboration between the government and traditional leaders is crucial in promoting development and addressing the challenges facing the region.
