Gov’t to begin paying road contractors this month – President Mahama.

President John Dramani Mahama has announced that the government will begin clearing debts owed to road contractors within this month, as part of efforts to revive stalled infrastructure projects nationwide.

Speaking during a meeting with members of the Council of State at the Presidency on Monday, July 7, 2025, President Mahama said the decision is aimed at enabling contractors to return to their project sites and resume delayed roadworks.

“The Ministry of Finance has made dedicated financial allocations to address a substantial portion of the outstanding debts. We expect this to bring much-needed relief to the contractors and help accelerate the delivery of critical infrastructure,” the President stated.

President Mahama emphasized that infrastructure development remains a core priority under his administration’s 24-hour economy agenda, and the swift resumption of road projects is key to unlocking economic growth and regional connectivity.

The announcement has been welcomed by stakeholders in the construction sector, who have long called for action on unpaid certificates and abandoned works.
