Club World Cup: Manchester City, Real Madrid, and Juventus featuring in the USA

Manchester City kicked off their campaign with a 2‑0 win over Wydad Casablanca, showcasing squad depth under Pep Guardiola with goals from Phil Foden and Jeremy Doku. New signing Rayan Cherki impressed in his debut.

Rico Lewis was controversially sent off late in that match, receiving criticism on social media, though Guardiola defended him.

Real Madrid’s campaign in the inaugural 32-team FIFA Club World Cup began with a 1‑1 draw against Al‑Hilal, in a match that marked both Xabi Alonso’s managerial debut in a major tournament and Trent Alexander-Arnold’s first appearance in a Madrid shirt.

Trent, who joined Real Madrid this summer from Liverpool in a high-profile free transfer, started the game in his trademark right-back position but operated in a more central hybrid role — a tactical innovation by Alonso that received mixed reviews.

Randal Kolo Muani and Francisco Conceicao each scored twice as Juventus closed out the first round of the group stage in the Club World Cup with a 5-0 victory over Al Ain on Wednesday night.

The 36-time Italian champions opened the scoring in the 11th minute through Kolo Muani’s header in front of 18,161 fans.

Ten minutes later, Conceicao dribbled the ball inside the penalty box and made it 2-0.

Kenan Yildiz found the lower left corner in the 31st minute and Kolo Muani’s second goal four minutes into first-half stoppage time put Juventus up 4-0.

Conceicao scored again just before the hour to round off the win.
