The Technical Committee established to advise the government on Private Sector Participation (PSP) in the power distribution activities of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) has presented its report to the Minister of Energy and Green Transition, John Jinapor, with three key recommendations.
The committee believes these measures will help address the challenges facing the ECG and NEDCo.
The three recommendations include Entity Concession, Multiple Lease and Service Franchise.
Committee Chairman Jabesh Amissah-Arthur spoke at an engagement with the Energy and Green Transition Minister to pursue Entity Concession, Multiple Lease and Service Franchise.
“The three main options that we focused on are what we call an Entity Concession, where the whole distribution business will be given out to a private concession as a whole.
“Then there is what we call the Multiple Lease in which case, the distribution across the country will be divided into several parts and each of them awarded separately. And then we have the Service Franchise in which case the private sector will operate the low-voltage network from the distribution transformer to deliver services to homes and businesses.”
