Former Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Joseph Ade Coker, has defended the discretion exercised by security agencies in handling ongoing investigations, stating that not all details can be made public.
Speaking in response to concerns raised about the lack of transparency in high-profile cases, Mr. Coker emphasized that law enforcement agencies must protect the integrity of investigations while also keeping the public informed.
“Security agencies won’t disclose everything they share just enough for responsible citizens to assist with investigations. That is how responsible security management works. If you put out too much information, you could compromise the case,” he explained.

His comments come amid growing debate over the handling of sensitive national security matters, particularly cases involving financial crimes, missing state resources, and other high-stakes investigations. Some critics argue that the public deserves more frequent and detailed updates, especially when the cases involve taxpayer funds or public institutions.
However, Mr. Coker insists that law enforcement bodies operate under strict protocols and that premature disclosure of certain details could hinder justice.
“Investigations take time, and there are procedures to follow. Sometimes, the public wants instant answers, but due process must be followed. If a suspect knows what investigators are looking for, they could destroy evidence or influence witnesses. That’s why the security agencies act cautiously,” he added.
He also urged the public to remain patient and cooperative, noting that responsible citizenship includes supporting security agencies rather than pressuring them to reveal every detail prematurely.
