Andrew Bediako, a prominent advocate for local governance, has called on President John Mahama to fulfill his promises to assembly members regarding the timely disbursement of the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF).
Speaking at a press briefing, Bediako expressed frustration over the delays in the release of the fund, which he says is crippling development efforts at the local government level. He emphasized that assembly members play a critical role in grassroots governance and require adequate financial support to carry out their duties effectively.

“The President made commitments to the assembly members regarding the timely release of funds to facilitate development projects. However, many assemblies are still struggling due to delays in disbursement. We expect the government to act immediately and honor its promises,” Bediako stated.
Local government officials and assembly members have repeatedly complained that delays in DACF allocations hinder essential projects such as infrastructure development, education, and healthcare services. Some assembly members have also voiced concerns over the lack of resources to engage their communities effectively.
Bediako stressed that the failure to disburse funds on time affects decentralization efforts and weakens the ability of local governments to address pressing community needs.
