Dr. Stephen Amoah, a renowned economic expert, also a member of parliament for the people of Nhyiaeso Constituency, has expressed grave concerns over the current state of revenue collection in the country, calling it “woefully impaired.” Speaking to the media recently, Dr. Amoah highlighted several issues that have hindered the government’s ability to collect the necessary funds to drive development and ensure fiscal stability.
According to Dr. Amoah, inefficient tax collection mechanisms, rampant tax evasion, and widespread lack of public awareness about the importance of revenue generation are key factors contributing to the ongoing shortfall in revenue collection. He pointed out that despite the government’s efforts to reform the tax system, the country continues to fall short in meeting its fiscal targets, impacting public services and developmental projects.

“The country’s revenue system is in a precarious state. If we don’t address these challenges immediately, we risk undermining the entire economic structure. The public must understand that taxes are not just a government burden but a fundamental part of nation-building,” Dr. Amoah stated.
He further emphasized the need for a collective effort between government institutions, businesses, and citizens to promote tax compliance and enhance public awareness. According to him, a more efficient and transparent revenue collection system will be essential in ensuring that the country can meet its development goals.
In his speech, Dr. Amoah also urged the government to focus on strengthening its tax administration processes, improving data collection methods, and ensuring that tax revenues are used effectively to address the pressing needs of the population.
The call for action has sparked discussions among policymakers, business leaders, and ordinary citizens, with many agreeing that a stronger focus on tax collection and public education is needed to secure the nation’s economic future.
As the government works to reform the system, experts like Dr. Amoah continue to emphasize the importance of a robust and transparent revenue collection process in securing the country’s economic stability and growth.
